Patricia Brown's work integrates classical hatha yoga with Vipassana meditation. She encourages students to cultivate an intuitive receptivity and openness, honoring the unique way each person uncovers the inner teacher. In the early 80's she studied the BKS Iyengar method of yoga. She then became interested in the innovative work of Angela Farmer and Emilie Conrad. She later studied the breath centered approach to yoga asana in the Viniyoga tradition of TKV Desikachar and Vanda Scaravelli. Following a desire to continue to deepen, she participated in meditation retreats with the Indian teacher SN Goenka and various other teachers in the Vipassana tradition. This experience led her to integrate yoga asana and meditation. In the 90's she turned to the nondual teachings of Advaita in the tradition of Ramana Maharashi. Since that time she has devoted her practice and teaching to the integration of asana, vipassana meditation and advaita. Patricia is known for the women's silent yoga and meditation retreats she has led since 1985. She founded Body Prayers Yoga for Women and has trained yoga teachers in the tradition of one on one teacher/student relationship, mentors teachers and offers yoga and meditation retreats nationally, in the Caribbean and in Maine at her home at Rolling Meadows.
